For 6 servings:
For the mashed potato:
2 ¼ lb potatoes
¾ cup milk
1 tablespoon cream
3 ½ tablespoons butter
salt
nutmeg (optional)
½ cup shredded cheese
For the contents :
1 lb ground beef
1 onion
1 shallot
2 garlic cloves
1 carrot
2 tablespoons butter
salt and pepper

Chop the onion, garlic and shallot.
Peel and dice the carrot and potatoes.

Boil the potatoes in salted water or milk for about 30 minutes. If you use milk, be careful it doesn't boil over.

Fry the carrots in the butter for about 1 minute, then add the onion, garlic and shallot. Leave for a further 1 minute.

Add the meat. Season with salt and pepper and leave to cook for 10 minutes, stirring regularly.

Mash the potaotes and add the butter, milk, cream and salt. Stir vigorously.

Put the meat in an oven dish and cover with the potato. Top with a layer of cheese.
Cook in a hot oven for 10 minutes, then 2 minutes under the grill.

Finishing touches...
If you’re in a rush, use instant mashed potato flakes instead of fresh potatoes, although they don’t taste quite as good. The butter can be entirely replaced by olive oil. |
