This quick and easy pasta gratin recipe was given to me by my dad. "

For 2 servings:
8 oz uncooked spaghetti
˝ cup heavy cream
1 cup milk
2 to 3 slices of ham
shredded cheese
1 onion
1 tablespoon of flour
nutmeg
pepper
1 garlic clove

Cut the ham into small cubes and finely slice the onion. Sweat the onions in a dab of butter (if necessary adding a little oil to prevent the butter from burning).
At the same time, boil the water for the pasta.

Sprinkle a small amount of flour over the onions (about a tablespoonful should suffice) to absorb the fat. Continue to cook until you begin to detect a biscuit like smell.
Lower the heat and mix in the milk and the heavy cream.
Sprinkle over a pinch of nutmeg and pepper. In the other pan, cook the pasta in the boiling water for 6 minutes.

Add the ham to the mixture and stir in the shredded cheese. Continue to add cheese until the mixture begins to become sticky.

When the sauce and the pasta are cooked, rub a clove of garlic over a gratin dish and add the pasta followed by the sauce. Sprinkle with shredded cheese and place under the grill for
a few minutes, watching carefully to check it doesn’t burn.
